Hello guys,

Does anyone know of a FC-PGA2 Tualatin board with an intel chipset (although, I guess I wouldn't say no to one with a VIA chipset), that has an SB-Link / PC-PCI connector?
I'm pretty sure the Tualatin Intel boards don't have ISA slots and from what I know having this connector on a non-ISA board is extremely rare (but not impossible, since it's available even on some P4 boards).
I have three Tualatin boards: Abit ST6, Asus TUSL2-C and Gigabyte GA-6IEM and none of them have this elusive connector.

I noticed that if you disable both L1 & L2 caches on a Tualatin chip, it actually makes it perfect for some speed sensitive games (like Monkey Island / Titus the Fox). For example, I tried disabling L1 / L2 caches on a Pentium 3 Coppermine 700 MHz and it becomes way too slow (disabling just one of them is not good either, since the speed will still be too high).

Of course, this is just for fun, since I also have two Super Socket 7 motherboards with AMD K6-2+ CPUs, which are extremely flexible when it comes to DOS gaming and they also have 2 / 3 ISA slots.

Yeah, saw the list but I wasn't sure if it was updated or not with all the findings 😀

Adapters that adapt voltages for Tualatin CPUs exist, like the Upgradeware Slot-T (for slot 1) and the company Lin-Lin also has some products (S370 -> S370 also). Hard to find and expensive though. You might also need a new BIOS.

It will give you real ISA slots though...

Yeah, it only really gets updated when people find more boards.. and even then, you just have to look through all the pages because their isn't a list that gets updated.

See this page in the thread for some that do:

Yeah, there's even the guy on eBay selling Tualatin CPUs with so called "on-chip adapters" on eBay, which will work on many Coppermine boards (slot 1 / socket 370) as long as they support FSB133 and 1.45V. Still, I'm curious if I can't find a board designed for Tualatin that actually has the SB-Link connector (probably not).

Look at the QDI Advance 9 (Via chipset and has PC-PCI) The manual doesn't specifically say that it supports Tualatins, but it might have been added in a later BIOS version.

• Intel® 815 chipset: This chipset contains the 82815 GMCH and 82801AA ICH. This combo supports PC-PCI / SB-Link per the datasheet.

Had to divide into a 2-part zip.

The QDI SynactiX5EP has PC-PCI and should support Tualatin.

I don't need to go through the manuals by myself to figure this out for you. You can do research yourself:

The manual you posted, there're SX5EP and SX5EP V2.0 two boards, I don't know the difference but the SX5EP V2.0 manual says it support Tualatin for sure, but SX5EP doesn't have Tualatin in its micro-processor list.
I picked a SX5EP the other day and it lights up with P3 1G Coppermine but doesn't with a P3s 1.3G Tualatin. I saw some pics showing a SX5EP with a SX5EP V2.0 BIOS (V1.6SCLP) can work with Tualatin so I'm gonna take the shot.

UPDATE:
I failed to upgrade the BIOS to V2.0 because the new bios is only for SX5EP V2.0. I didn't risk to hack and force updating it.
And I managed to find a SX5EP V2.0 mobo and it works great with Tualatin and YMF724 with PCPCI.

Hello everyone, the usual apologies for necroposting, but this thread was far too specific not to ask:

By chance I also ended up with a QDI Advance 9 board on my hands. Did anyone in the meantime found out if it's compatible with Tualatin CPUs? I have a 1.4Ghz Tualatin that I would love to get working on this board. Motherboard.cz states that compatibility with "future" CPUs was predicted, so is it a question of updating the BIOS?

http://www.motherboard.cz/mb/qdi/Advance%209.htm

Thank you as always for your help and replies

Edit: some more googling revealed promising results, will check it out some more. From a translated quote in a link I found:

"With the patch 4-1 of www.rom.by was not working. There was no space in the file of the bios pair to adding the new microcodes, finally erase the module cpucode and the module of the Logo, (it was occupying an atrocity of space), and then utilizй the patch. It worked perfectly. There is no Logo of Qdi but in return he supports all the processors Tualatin."

A reply: "Hallo!
Try to use the current version of BPatcher - 4.23, it is more stable...
Good Luck!.."

https://www.rom.by/forum/Qdi_Advance_9_Socket … n_1400_Tualatin

This was in 2004, and his BIOS was not made available. So is it a question of patching/changing the BIOS? As for voltage and stuff like that it's fully compatible I assume?

Out of box - Nope.
I don`t know any matherboard with Mendocino+Copermine&Tualatin support.
Mendo+Copper ot Cu-mine+Tualatin.
QDI#9 is first of its.

But there is nothing complicated in real life.
Tualatin already with an adapter?

Thanks for your reply as always @shevalier, I guess I was dealing with many things at the same time that I didn't even realize that the board doesn't support later AGP cards, so there's not much use for me putting a 1.4Ghz PIII-S in there. However for people searching for similar terms, according to what I read the latest BIOS from Oct. 2006 v. 1.9 supports "future CPUs", so maybe it will at least reach or break the 1Ghz barrier?...

For a correctly written BIOS from Award, supports "future CPUs" may be added with two commands.
(1) cbrom.exe bios_file.bin /cpucode release
(2) cbrom.exe bios_file.bin /cpucode newcpucode.bin

Moreover, CPU microcodes are written for the entire family, although they are periodically updated. Nothing prevents you from installing a 1GHz Cu-mine right now.
But by adding microcodes for Tualatin, 3 (4) pin from the socket will not disappear by themselves and 3 pins will not connect to each other, alas.
