I want to make a Windows 98SE PC with the following:

Slot 1 Motherboard 650MHz
AGP Nvidia MX440 (Primary)
PCI Voodoo 3 2000 (Glide only)
ISA AWE32 (Secondary/DOS) IRQ 5
PCI SB Live (Primary) - usually goes on IRQ10/11

I'll have all parallel, serial, even USB disabled in the BIOS so I don't think I'll have IRQ conflicts... if set up correctly.

For sound I was wondering if I could do some kind of line-in / pass through option here? But I can just plug both cards into my amp in separate aux ports and switch between the two on my amp if needed.

For switching between the graphics cards, is there a way to avoid having to go around the back of the machine and "manually" switch the VGA cable between the two cards?

Is this build actually possible?

Ryzen 3700X | 16GB 3600MHz RAM | AMD 6800XT | 2Tb NVME SSD | Windows 10
AMD DX2-80 | 16MB RAM | STB LIghtspeed 128 | AWE32 CT3910
I have a vacancy for a main Windows 98 PC

Hello, yes, there are KVM switches that can be used for this.
Originally, these devices were meant to operate two PCs with a single set of keyboard, video and mouse.

Problem is win98 generally doesn't like two display adapters, you might be installing drivers every boot. Why not just a voodoo2?

Agree !! Even Win ME does not like dual cards unless they are exact same.

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

I've a Ti4600 paired with a V3 and was surprised how well it worked in Win98SE? Only difference is I have a dedicated screen attached to each card.
No driver issues at all, just set the primary card to AGP in BIOS and the desktop behaves just the same as a multi screen setup in later windows versions.

Only problem so far is powerslide refuses to detect glide support unless I disable the Ti4600 in device manager. Every other game in my catalogue correctly picked the correct card depending on API.

If your screen has multiple inputs, say vga and DVI you can attach each input to a different card and use the monitors input select to switch between the 2.

This same PC had both SBLive and a ISA Sound blaster. I didn't even bother disabling the ports and only the 2 game ports conflicted so it's definitely do-able
If both soundcards are setup in windows you could run the line out of the live to the line in of the AWE (not the other way as that wont work in dos) but your amp method is better

It should be possible. Using PARUS's Live! mixer. link

1) VLSI SCAMP /286@20 /4M /CL-GD5422 /CMI8330
2) i420EX /486DX33 /16M /TGUI9440 /GUS+ALS100+MT32PI
3) i430FX /K6-2@400 /64M /Rage Pro PCI /ES1370+YMF718
4) i440BX /P!!!750 /256M /MX440 /SBLive!
5) iB75 /3470s /4G /HD7750 /HDA

I take it you own the Voodoo3 2000? Because otherwise, just get a Voodoo2 12MB. Similar performance, but it has pass-through. I use it in my own P3 600 system like this.

Retro game fanatic.
IBM PS1 386SX25 - 4MB
IBM Aptiva 486SX33 - 8MB - 2GB CF - SB16
IBM PC350 P233MMX - 64MB - 32GB SSD - AWE64 - Voodoo2
PIII600 - 320MB - 480GB SSD - SB Live! - GF4 Ti 4200
i5-2500k - 3GB - SB Audigy 2 - HD 4870

Yes I have the voodoo 3 already. However with our office now all home working and my partner also home working I am now sharing desk space and my monitor collection so this project is now on hold;

Ryzen 3700X | 16GB 3600MHz RAM | AMD 6800XT | 2Tb NVME SSD | Windows 10
AMD DX2-80 | 16MB RAM | STB LIghtspeed 128 | AWE32 CT3910
