Hello again, everyone. RetroLizard here, looking for suggestions on which network card (IPX/Modem) to go with for MS-DOS 6.22, and some tips on getting IPX configured correctly.

Usually something 3Com or SMC-ish, but what the best is rather depends on what bus(es) you have. 8b ISA, 16b ISA, EISA, MCA, VLB or PCI all have their own best options. In general, use the widest/fastest bus available.

Again, why bother if you have PCI? But how to tell: look at them, you can see instantly if it's 8b or 16b. Look up any Wiki article for the visible differences.

It would help of course if you'd share the exact names of the motherboards with us.

Look, I've said three times already that PCI is a better choice than ISA if you have it, but you keep on going on and on about ISA... If you don't follow advice and don't say why not I can't help you.

After a bit of research, I'm thinking this card might work?

In the west side of the US.

Ok - just asking in case someone closer had a card spare.

As far as I know the 3C509/509B and NE2000 cards were as close as you could get to a standard card.

I think it might be possible to have two network cards available in a computer - One for MS-DOS games (Like Doom, or any games from the time period that supported IPX) and one for games from 1996-2000?

That should work, but I don't see a reason to do that. Any old game should work fine with a 10Mbps card...

When I took Novell certification courses they recommended the 3com Earthlink lll 3c509 card or an NE2000 Novell certified card.

Is that the intergalactic version of the Etherlink III?

That's the hardest part about setting up a Novell client or server is getting compatible network cards. You can't go wrong with the 3com 3c509.
it's probably the most versatile network card ever. I use the ISA versions 3c509B or C
In PCI I think they have the TX model.

But it will save you allot of head aches to get a compatible network card.
