I recently put together a K62- 500 computer with an Asus P5A-B revsion 1.05 motherboard. I am currently running it at 550MHz @2.4v and it is perfectly stable. Trying the 2.0x multipler for 600MHz is a no go. I don't want to go any higher on the voltage. I am using a StarTech Socket 7/370 all copper cooler. I am curious if anyone else has had any luck running a K62-500 @600MHz on any of their systems?

Not a K6-2 500 but I had a K6-2 550 that ran at 660Mhz back when that was my main system. It was on an ASUS P5A.

The K6-2+ and K6-3+ CPUs generally can overclock to 600+ Mhz

It's been many years since I tried overclocking a K6-2, and I never tried too hard because they're very poor overclockers. 50 MHz over the rated speed is actually very good for a K6-2.

I would have loved to have used a K6-2+ or K6-3+, but it is well documented that revisions greater than 1.04 on a P5A-B don't play nice with these CPUs. I recently saw someone had success modding a 1.06 revision board, but I don't if that applies to a 1.05. I already have a couple systems running a K6-3+ CPU, so having a K6-2 in the mix worked out for me anyway.

Regular K6-2 are capable to achieve 600 Mhz. After all the highest binned K6-2 is 550 Mhz. Regular Pentium MMX 2.8v power won't hurt it in any shape (with sufficient cooling).

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.

Perhaps antidotal but on several boards I had if I benchmarked a Standard k6-2 @ 5.5x theN benchmarked the same chip at a higher speed using the 6x multiplier My results were actually slower at the higher speed
(and no usually in both cases I wasn’t overclocked either same bus speed as well)

Also I had a k6-2 570mhz in my parts bin, don’t remember much about it.

I already tried that, but I was using PC100 memory and had stability issues. I will see if I can dig up some PC133 memory and try it agin.

I installed a PC133 256MB DIMM. I tried using lower latency memory settings of 2-2-2 and a few tweaks with TweakBIOS instead of overclocking the FSB and I am satisfied with the result. Just going to leave at that for now.

Most k6 will overclock 50 mhz past their bin with no issue. so 450->500 for example. Some K6 will go 100 mhz past bin. Very few k6 will go 150mhz past. And something like 1/10 K6 that have good bins will hit 600mhz. Which is why AMD stop making faster k6s past 550. Because Binning was terrible.
