First of all...
Thanks to all you legends helping me with my Aptiva thread, that's the computer this is from. I've made some upgrades and taken a lot of advice to heart on my other post.
I figured this one was pretty specific so I'd make a new one.
I have taken my old Aptiva apart and cleaned up the mainboard and tried to figure out what I might be able to upgrade it with. I'm still a bit confused as to the S7 / SS7 quirks, but I'm trying to figure it out.
So originally it came with a Pentium 133, and in my old parts bucket I found a Socket 7 Pentium MMX 166, and after bending a few of the pins back straight (lol) it fit right in, and seems to be working, but I dont have the board set up properly to configure the voltages for the clock speeds. Windows says the processor is running at 130 MHz, and I get a 127 error after post every time.
The motherboard has PRO 159 REV 3.1 silk screened on the board but I can't find any helpful info, and I have no idea who made the board. My original guess woudl be Intel, because of the chipset, but I have no real evidence of that. I'm just looking for a manual or something. Nothing that came with the IBM documentation went this far, from what I'm reading IBM really tried to discourage upgrades.
The closest I've found is this:
https://stason.org/TULARC/pc/motherboards/I/I … 4-2176-A-1.html
but it's for a different model of Aptiva 2176 and the diagram and header positions/labels isn't quite right.
Does anybody have an idea of where to point me in the right direction to figure this out?
