I wonder if anyone can shed light on an overdrive CPU, as I think I’ve incorrectly assumed its purpose and burnt some cash.

I have a pentium 90mhz on a socket 5 motherboard. The boards limitation is 2x 66mhz. So I bought myself a 166MHz PODP3V166, thinking it would register as a 166..

I’ve managed to get the CPU running at 130mhz which is it’s max output on motherboard jumpers, so is it in fact running at 166? And just registered at 133?

Or have I just wasted my money and should I have just bought a 133? Lol

Yes. Those have a fixed multiplier so it likely runs at 166 (f you configure your board to 66 MHz bus) irrespectively what the BIOS says.

Thanks man I appreciate the feedback, I was going to get the mmx version but I sourced this cheap (in comparisons to usual eBay prices anyway) I need to get benchmark software really but I’m awaiting a CF card etc and have no ability to get software into it yet to check.
