Greetings,

I wanted to max out my Asus P2B, so I bought a P-III 600 CPU from ebay. I was hoping to pop off a PII heatsink and slapchop it onto the new 600, but it looks like it is riveted to the CPU. I see the actual CPU in the center of the slot 1 card, and there are two chips off to the side, and I see four holes around the CPU. Webcrawling along the Information Superhighway, I am getting lost in a host of options. What is the BEST and cheapest option for a P-III 600Mhz CPU? The smaller, the better. This P2 heatsink is ridiculously large as compared to my P-III 550 CPU heatsink, and the 550 also has a fan attached, unlike the P2 I have.

Thanks!

I have P III 600E with an unusual heat sink depicted here - https://i.pinimg.com/originals/12/35/e6/1235e … 4c92a7521a8.jpg (not my item). No fan can be attached to it as a result. My plan is to modify sheet metal from 5.25 bay to act as a fan holder (for 6 cm fan) attached to case instead of CPU heat sink, but placed very close.

Pentium III 900E, ECS P6BXT-A+, 384MB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600 128MB, Voodoo 2 12MB, 80GB HDD, Yamaha SM718 ISA, 19" AOC 9GlrA
Athlon 64 3400+, MSI K8T Neo V, 1GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 7600GT 512MB, 250GB HDD, Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS

I think that I messed up. I had multiple ebay windows open and thus ordered a SL3JP , which has an FSB of 133. My board is a P2B 1.04, 100FSB...

I belive the plastic pins have barb like rings that grab onto the plastic cover.
So you can push them backwards to (you need push pretty hard) if you have something that precisely fits the holes.
For me I use one of my torx drives, fits perfectly.
Usually you can reuse the plastic pins if you want to, or replace them with a nut and bolt.
