I bought a collection of CPUs from eBay and all of them had bent pins, some quote severe. I was able to bend most of them back using a mechanical pencil and a lot of patience but the very worst was a 486DX-50. I do not have a photo of it but one of the pins was completely folded over at almost 90 degrees!

I was able to straighten all but two pins which snapped off at the base. The CPU otherwise looked fine and the break was clean so I decided to try and repair it.

Unfortunately, I do not have a 486 to test it in but I suspect that it will work just fine since the damage was purely mechanical.

I dare say that the repair job is stronger than any of the original pins.

Here are the results.

Some flux and hot air might be able to level that off a little. 😀

Good job.

Btw, if you wanna know what those pins do

I don't think you realize how hard it was to get these to stick, as there is no good way to hold the tiny pin, an iron, and solder at the same time. There is also the risk of dropping the pin into the ether and losing it forever. This is definitely good enough and is NOT something I'm worried about looking pretty.

wise/double sided tape, third hand and a fat hypodermic needle (they come in sizes up to ~4mm)
but it would just be chasing aesthetics, if it works it works

Soldering ceramic CPUs is a pain, only soldering a heatsink is worse. This turned out well enough ~
