I picked up a couple thumbsticks for a Raspberry Pi project from Adafruit awhile back, and today I stumbled across a source for both male and female 15-pin d-sub connectors (gameport / midi, like on a sound card).

Would it be possible to adapt such joysticks (they seem to have 4 connections and use pots, iirc) to work with a vintage gameport?
I like the idea of making a custom joystick/gamepad...

Another question that popped into my head was whether I could find din connectors compatible with the joystick ports on the Tandy 1000hx, and either create an adapter for "regular" vintage PC joysticks, or interface the Adafruit joysticks with it.

I've also gotten a 9-dof motion sensor from Adafruit for another Pi project; I've been wondering if I could create a custom 3D motion controller similar to the Spacemouse controller, again connecting to the 15 pin gameport on a vintage machine? That would obviously require some kind of driver, but if I use some kind of arduino, I might be able to translate the 9-dof values into joystick/mouse motions.

Has anyone tried anything like this yet?
