I'm curious if anyone here has any first hand experience running a Coppermine-T Pentium III on an ASUS CUSL2-C board. What cursory research I can find says Coppermine-T CPUs should be compatible with all Coppermine compatible boards. But then I also found some ancient forum posts indicating that boards require a BIOS update for that.

The ASUS website just says the CUSL2-C supports PIII processors up to 1 Ghz. But this page excludes the Coppermine-T 1 Ghz cpu from the support list. It does have a list of supported motherboards as well, but it seems weirdly incomplete. Or was support really just that anemic?

Alternately, does anyone know of any archives of ASUS's bios update change history?

Well, I just decided to try it and see what happens.

A Coppermine-T 1.00 Ghz processor showed up today. Had a few bent pins I gently nudged back in the right direction. Got it in the socket. The board was set up to auto-detect, and it seemed to think the chip was a PIII 500e? But I was able to set 1000 Mhz in the BIOS. The multiplier is locked at 7.5 and it seems ok with the PC 133 ram I put in.

This is with BIOS version 1009.

I suppose we'll see what happens as I move forward putting Win98SE on there and keeping an eye on temps and stability. But so far it seems to POST fine.
