Hi,

I found a Gigabyte GA-6ZXC rev 2.0 board with one seller locally which I am interested in procuring (apart from a GA-6BXC rev 1.9 found online). Have a few queries regarding this board before I make the plunge. Understanding is that this board (ZX chipset) is a stripped down version of BX chipset which can support only max of 256MB RAM. Also the manual states that the CPU support is only from 333Mhz P2/Celeron onwards (as compared to 233MHz P2 for the BX chipset). As this is a 2.0 revision, there are 2 jumpers for Voodoo 3 support. My questions are as follows:

1) Would the BX chipset of the same manufacturer (GA-6BXC rev 1.9) be better than this ZX chipset (which has rev 2.0) or otherwise?
2) Could this ZX chipset support processors less than 333 Mhz P2?
3) I have read somewhere that rev 1.9 boards don't have proper Voodoo 3 support. Is there any truth to this?

Please help me to choose between GA6BXC (rev 1.9) or GA6ZXC (rev 2.0).Appreciate your replies. Thank you!!

1) The 440bx chipset is better than 440zx which is a budget offering but given the problems with more power hungry video cards the GA-6BXC rev1.9 doesn't appear as an attractive choice either.
2) It very likely will. Maybe it has issues with setting multipliers for P2 processors that aren't multi locked so the 333MHz is the only model with official support?
3) Problems with Geforce 4Ti 4200 on retro build Yes, there are problems with more power hungry video cards on some boards of this revision.

Thank you Doornkaat! Went through the link and it seems like the problem is quite extensive with power hungry GPUs and earlier revision Gigabyte boards (<2.0). Would there be any other reasons apart from the 256Mb RAM limit in ZX chipset to avoid considering the GA6ZXC board? (I am unlikely to use more than 256MB RAM).

66MHz FSB would not do it for me personally.
You can still have a good Win9x gaming experience with a Celeron but you won't be breaking any FPS records. 😉

Edit: Sorry, was thinking of the 66MHz limited version. The 100MHz version should be ok.

I have no opinion about that particular board, much less any personal experience with it.

Sorry, missed out your 2nd question. As per the manual, the board supports processors upto P3 650 MHz/100 FSB. The minimum supported processor speed is given as P2/Celeron 333Mhz /66 FSB. This was the reason I was curious as the Gigabyte BX board mentions support for P2 233 Mhz/66 FSB onwards.
