Nevertheless I would give the latest "WMxy" version (by now WM72 from MS-5106) a try.

I'm ready to try. The board is up and running again with a new bios chip (found one, by good luck).
Unfortunately I cannot find a download anywhere on the Internet for the MS-5105 bios, including that url specified.
Where can I find it?

Can't help much with the BIOS / board hunt, but this seems a bit confusing given the text and associated picture - did MSI reuse board model nos.? (scroll down) - https://au.msi.com/Landing/anz-35th-anniversary-campaign

Just saw it right now...this is BS...they interchanged something. MSI did some odd things but they didn't use the model number MS-5103 for a socket 4 and a dual socket 8 board. It's not just this - under "1993&1997" the MS-5103 dual socket 8 board and a MS-4413 3D card with 8MB SGRAM and AGP are mentioned. Both can't be from 1993, so there must be something wrong!

My guess for why there aren't any bios updates on the official page is the fact that the bios chip on MS-5108 and MS-5103 was EPROM, requiring special hardware to write.

This could be a reason, but isn't comprehensible at all. ASUS f.e. also had (has?) BIOS downloads for boards with EPROM (like soggi.org -> ASUS PCI/I-486SP3G).

Uh...sorry, this was my fault, didn't notice that there's no download, just the BIOS ID with BIOS message... 😒

Yes MSI did some odd things... have an OEM MSI board in a HP Gateway that has a MS # on the board but no you cannot find it any where on MSI websites, but can find it on Ebay 🤣

This is probably because these are OEM motherboards and MSI (rightfully so) did not want to give support for owners of these boards. Support of these boards were to be given by their respective OEM suppliers (in your case HP Gateway).

So your board has a BIOS with the other/earlier BIOS ID (2A597M40). Makes me wonder what was the original one? Maybe perhenden's BIOS (BIOS ID 2A59BM41) originally wasn't for the MS-5103 and someone updated it back then? It's all a bit confusing...

BTW I noticed that there are two pages for the MS-5103 on Ultimate Retro:
https://www.ultimateretro.net/en/motherboards/3644 (MSI MS-5103 PCI/ISA 586MCI)
https://www.ultimateretro.net/en/motherboards/3645 (MSI MS-5103)

Try to dump the BIOS on yours when you have time, so it can be added to UR.
