The English Version of the SP is quite "fat" with lot's of addons.
I'd suggest you start with the "Windows 98 Vogons Approved Update Pack" from here:

As it contains the most useful fixes for "Very Old Games On Newer Systems" 😉
(The roots of the SP date back until 2005/2006 when people actually used Win98 as their daily operating system and required a more up-to-date version regarding the security fixes)

I'm not a fan of unnoficial service packs either. Tends to not support French... Not only it breaks the system, but the UI too.
