So it looks like 600Mhz is out of reach at 2V.

Not at all!
Hirsch has one which can run 6x100MHz at 1.85V!

This is the result of the 9 CPUs I ordered for RaiderOfLostVoodoo and me. I didn't test with more than 2.0V (except one). When no 600 MHz is mentioned it doesn't run stable on 600 MHz@2.0V. I tested with Prime95 25.11 on a DFI K6XV3+/66.

Tried to give myself a small discount for buying 2 lots with an offer, but that timed out too... maybe too busy to check the offers or something. Actually tried to just BIN but Paypal is being a royal f*ckup again... keeps trying to force payment to credit card, I have the money in the bank, which is set as preferred, WTF is wrong with you. ( I gave PP a five year timeout for randomly deciding to ignore preferred or selected payment settings and denying they did it, hoping for something better to come along and/or hoping their lameass flaky code would get fixed if I waited long enough, even if it was by voodoo and cargo cult and pasting stuff from stack exchange or quora because they didn't have the first freaking clue.)

You guys know, I’ve been trying to figure out how to turn these into k6-3+ cpus. But haven’t been able to find someone with a de lidded 2+ and 3+ to help me.

SUCCESSFUL K6-2+ to K6-3+ Full Cache Enable Mod

If one of you guys is willing to pop a lid off one of those and take some measurements between all possible combinations on the pads under the lid that would be awesome. Then I’ll only need a 3+ owner to chime in without a lid.

Not sure if this should be it's own thread. I received my CPUs today and I want to run it at 600mhz but I am having trouble understanding how to set the mobo jumpers. I have a FIC VA-503+

I think I have the bus frequency set to 100mhz and the voltage to 2.0 and the multiplier at 2x (interpreted as 6x by the cpu). But I get 556mhz.

Here are pics for reference and my settings. Can anyone see my error?

That's likely the fastest CPU speed that BIOS can display. When I first setup my Asus TXP4 with a K6-2+ @ 500, it displayed _MMX CPU @166 (or something very similar) - only after flashing it to the patched BIOS did it show both the correct speed and type for the CPU. Do you have the latest BIOS for that board?

Post 3 at this forum says it will show up as 556 but is actually running at 600mhz so maybe this is normal.

UPDATE!
Windows does report the cpu speed as 600mhz

Don't rely on what the BIOS says at POST, same motherboard same chip here, at both 95x6 and 100x6 it displays 556MHz but Everest sees the correct speeds (570 and 600 respectively). Also at 112x5.5, the BIOS says 622MHz, but Everest shows 615MHz (that's because the FSB is actually 111.9MHz, not 112).

I think it's only sometime in the last 15 years that CPUs even knew what exact model they were to tell the BIOS, before that, they only knew what architecture/series they were by CPUID and model was set somewhat mechanically by locked multi. So BIOS only supports CPUs by architecture really, and stepping level often, so at boot it plays "Guess what CPU this is" and the way to guess is look at CPUID and see which architecture, then run a teeny benchmark loop to see how fast it is, and then it guesses based on model speed quantization when that BIOS was released, or if it seems far enough off, just throws up a raw figure.

Hah.. that would be something.

As far as anybody knows, the K6 and K6-2 and K6-III chips never worked in smp configurations on any publicly available motherboards though there is a rumor that there was an early dual socket 5 board that somebody got them working on.

yeah, I have a thread on that. I don't think that the capacitor is for smp. not much clue really what it may be.. maybe something to do with multipliers? not a clue.. maybe a 7x multi??

I guess that, as always, "playable" is in the eye of the beholder. 😁
In this day and age, for me "playable" means somewhere around 45 FPS average, with 1% lows that should stay above 25 - 30 FPS.
During my younger years, playable for me was 15 - 20 FPS AVG, and I would even tolerate dips below 10 FPS. Those were the days...

The Ezra T arrived today .. now to get the other parts I need to turn it into a working system.

So mine turned up now, sadly my socket 7 and super 7 stuff is inconveniently located at present, so can't play right away, will join in the fun later...

(Gah I give up on making the pics show up the the right way round, the phone was in more or less the same position for all of them, they're all "upright" when I scale them in Paint. )

Use GIMP or some other actual good graphics/photo editing app. That way the picture will actually be saved the way you rotated it.

You can rotate a photo by putting a tag on it (nothing really changes, just a tag to be displayed rotated), or by actually rotating it.
I have not identified what exactly has changed and this happens more and more often. My guess is that latest windows versions started tagging instead of rotating in more places, for example in the default image viewer. It's a good thing if you ask me in terms of original preservation and photo quality, but it's not communicated and we can see the implications.

edit: yep it looks like my empirical conclusion is a thing: https://www.howtogeek.com/254830/why-your-pho … rectly-rotated/
