I got here two tower for free and wanted to equip one with a mainboard i have left over.

The tower was without any standoffs, but they are too small for the holes in the tower. i have here 3 different towers where they fit without any problems. the are all M3 but this one tower has somehow bigger holes.

Anyone had problems like this before?

I thought all towers use the same diameter

Do you mean to say the word Standoff. Yea I have had casses come without standoffs. It's easy to figure out the diameter, the thread pitch is not easy to figure out. Take the case to the hardware store and try differn't screws until you find one that fits right. Then order standoffs based on the specs. Or you can figure out the diameter go to the hardware store and buy some screws with differnt thread pitches and try them till you figure out what it is.

Yes. The motherboard tray I use as a test bench also has a size bigger screw holes for the standoffs. I had enough standoffs for a uATX board so I had the size. I assume some cheapo cases just went with whatever was available. I don't know how common this is, but it's cheap to get them in the right size.

May of those will be M3 but some are also in freedom gauge:

Maybe it's that.

I think he means "die Abstandshalter, die"
But the best ones are actually Mexican.

Some cases are actually use M4 instead of M3.

I suppose it's not illegal. I only ever encountered the usual two and those where former owners had mixed them up and both fit a little, thanks to the ductility of brass...
The wiki page goes on to explain the (w)hole standoff issue.

Also, I meant to write "Many", of course.

Many the force be with you!

I like jumpers.
