Hi guys,

I have a 98SE system I built a while back that runs just fine. Rough specs are like:

K7S41GX mobo & 2600+ CPU
512MB RAM
9800XT GPU

I have an old 6600GT lying around that I wanted to try out so I swapped out my 9800XT and reinstalled Windows. After installing Windows the system will hang on the first reboot and, although I can get it running with a reset, I often get system hangs when trying to run games etc. Has anyone had such issues with this card before? Could my one be on it's last legs or something?

Thanks for any insight.

Nvidia cards equipped with an HSI bridge chip generally don't play well with older SiS (and VIA) chipsets. Unfortunately, the 6600GT is one of those cards. If your BIOS exposes any AGP driving strength controls, you might be able to get it to run stable. But if not, take comfort in knowing that the 6600GT isn't much faster than your 9800XT. 😀
