I bought a orchid reightous V1 card, but unfortunately i cannot run any games on it.

My system is a p3 800 set to 400 with fsb 66 on win98 se

First i installed the original windows drivers, i get on games different errors before the games start.

Than downloaded the original orchid drivers cd from library here. Only nfs3 worked but with glitches. Nothing else, than downloded orchid drivers from philslab and as soon as i start games the pc freezes with a black screen.

Do am i doing something wrong or is maybe the card broken?

Do you happen to have other systems to test the card?

Recently I had a Voodoo2 which had much trouble in an Intel 815E based system. The only thing it would ran was the Donut Demo. Worked flawlessly in an older Pentium 200 system with VIA chipset.

i386 16 ⇒ i486 DX4 100 ⇒ Pentium MMX 200 ⇒ Athlon Orion 700 | TB 1000 ⇒ AthlonXP 1700+ ⇒ Opteron 165 ⇒ Dual Opteron 856

atm i do not have any dos games, but what i have found out, only with rightous drivers the card clicks atleast when it is trying to switch modes, all other non righteous drivers do not have it

With nfs 3 i get following picture

And monster truck madness 1, whiplash (fatal racing) and the orchid tool start but freezes and have the same glitches like nfs

Interesting, never knew the Righteous V1 had relais, making the card somewhat mechanical.
My guess those are for enabling/disabling the input and output port.

Does the Donut Demo run with any driver?

which donut demo?

on a rightous cd there was the whiplash 3dfx version, this one i managed to run under dos with 3dfx, it doesnt crash, but still has this glitches, so i think the card has some hardware issues

I contacted the seller and he is willing to refund me the money. was bit lucky i think

BTW how do I uninstall alle the drivers which i have tried out? If I get a new card i want to have a fresh try?

yeah this sort of thing is only going to get worse as time goes on.
im looking for a voodoo1 here in australia and the price is around $200 for a card that has most of the time not been tested properly or not tested at all, and as you know showing a POST screen is not properly testing. If I buy from overseas it is cheaper but then shipping and import taxes take the price back to up near $200, and then what happens if the car needs returning (and the seller actually accepts a return)
if the cards were cheap it wouldnt matter as much, you would take a gamble and if it doesnt work you accept the small financial loss..
instead we are in a situation for 1997-1999 (peak voodoo years) where this one card costs 4x (or more) than the rest of the system.

Begin with the visual check of jammed pins and soldering of the chips pins (check it with the thin nail)
Clean the PCI contacts with stationery eraser and liquid cleaner.

Need help? Begin with photo and model of your hardware 😉
