It shows only 512K of memory on boot. Looks like it has 8 256kx4 memory modules installed, shouldn't it have 1Mb?

Also, I want to install two memory upgrades in empty sockets, what should I aim for?

If the chips are mounted in sockets, perhaps one has come loose. Can you reseat them?

I upgraded my 9440 card with a pair of Siemens HYB514171BJ-60 chips. It is a fun easy project, but there's a reason why few were upgraded.

The ramdac in the 9440 is only 108 MHz, so you can't take advantage of the extra ram without going into interlaced modes and LCD monitors rarely like the interlaced modes.

But sometimes just having the sense that you have fully upgraded your computer is worth the $10.

if you don't want to buy new chips, you should be able to remove 4 chips and still have the card work.
If you are able to do that, then swap the 4 chips that you removed with the 4 on the board.
If the card still works, then the issue isn't the chips.
