I figured it out! I didn’t measure any frequency on the 14.31818 crystal and then luckily got the board to post once when I was holding onto the crystal with my hands. I found it has a loose leg internally, so I swapped it for one I borrowed from a spare 5160 board.

Still the board didn’t always post, so I reflowed nearby components and the top and side of that VIA chip and now it’s posting reliably!

My guess is something got dropped on this area of the board, damaging the crystal and cracking some solder joints 😀

Also, thanks everyone for the suggestions and learning opportunities

Great job!

Change your jumper configuration to 128kB, we can see cache 0kb.

You have 4 times 32kx8 (28 pin chips).
In order to have more with 4 chips, the chips would need to be full size = 32pin. So it is obvious.

Glad it worked out.

What version of BIOS do you have?

I got the same board. looking for a Bios that identifies an AMD 5x86 correctly.

Came with 4.15g http://www.vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?file … menustate=30,29
I've also tried 4.27gn2a https://mame.spludlow.co.uk/Machine.aspx?name=ficvipio

Hi, I have the 4.26gn2a and only run a DX4/100. Let me know if you were successful in finding a bios compatible with the AMD 5x86.

Also, did you find the jumper config for the 5x86? It’s not in the docs I saw online.

If you upload the bios, I'll get it on the vogonsdrivers site

Here's the jumpers I used for the 5x86:

Re: FIC 486-VIP-IO2 CPU support

There are some interesting notes about the BIOS here:

FIC VIP-IO 486 Motherboard PCI w/ BIOS 3.276

Looking at the 4.27 bios http://www.vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?file … 986&menustate=0
I see the following CPU's in the code, but I was not able to get the 5x86 to be identified correctly on boot.
I get "Am486DX4B-S" with a clock speed that is usually 120Mhz but sometimes 150Mhz on POST.

I got the 5x86 working. My board doesn't exactly match the images but I managed to figure out a config that works. Attached images of the board set to run a 5x86 @ 160mhz. For 133mhz just change the speed to 33mhz instead of 40mhz.

Attached my 26GN2 bios. It doesn't ID the CPU as AMD, says Intel 486 & incorrect clock speed.

I also tried this 26GN2A bios, it detects the CPU as an AMD 486, incorrect clock speed.

Supposedly the 3276GN1 bios is supposed to work with the 486 vip io but on my board it doesn't post.
