Greetings everyone,
I got my hands on a cheap Compac SLT 286 that caught my eyes.
It was sold as “untested”, so I suspect it won’t work, but I can’t confirm it, because I don't have the power adapter.
I heard that a bench power supply might boot it up. Can anyone confirm this? (I'm using a mcpower lbn-303)
Is it possible to connect it directly to the battery contacts, as opposed to the power connector?
What voltage level does it require? Where can I locate the pinout for this connector?
I've already inspected the interior of the laptop and everything seems to be in great shape.
I am aware of the risks involved, but I am willing to take them.
Any advice would be welcome.

I don’t need any help anymore, I figured it out.
I found out that the leftmost pin of the battery connector is for 12V power and the rightmost one is for ground.
To my surprise, the laptop sprung to life, when I connected it to my bench power supply.
However, As expected the machine doesn't boot though.
I will need to modify the RTC first.
Sorry for bothering you with this.
My issue is resolved now.
