Quick question: Would you, Vogons gurus recommend S3 Trio 3D/2X 4 MB AGP card for DOS gaming? Any issue/trouble with it?

Hugs.

Should be as compatible as S3 Virge (which is compatible with almost everything https://gona.mactar.hu/DOS_TESTS/ 😀, but faster...
For those few incompatibilities we have S3VBEFIX S3VBEFIX - PC\MS-DOS TSR fix for S3 VESA 2.0 video BIOS
And for washed colors there are modified bioses and s3black/s3bright. Re: S3 AGP Cards (and possibly others) Too Bright

Thanks a lot for your reply and the links. I'm going to read them further.

I can get, instead of Trio 3D/2X AGP, a Savage4, exactly this card; http://www.512bit.net/s3/s3_savage4_lt.html

So if you'll have to select one, which one would you prefer for MS-DOS gaming? (Performance/Compatibility)

Best.

It's not a bad option at all for DOS, albeit not a popular one. I guess being an early AGP card doesn't help. Machines without AGP have Virge and machines with AGP usually have a faster card not exclusively for DOS gaming.

I use for years in my 233mmx build a trio3d/2x vga (diamond A55) and never had any issue ... just stick to 2D with it and you'll be fine

Everything after S3 Virge GX2 has some variation of VESA performance issues in Build engine (Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, etc) and probably some other games. Might not be crucial on slow system though.

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.
