I remember seeing a utility in a YouTube video that allowed you to force a CompactFlash card into fixed disk mode so that it will work in an IDE to CF adapter/XT-IDE, but I can't remember what the utility was actually called. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I have a couple CF cards but I have no clue what mode they're in, so having this utility would be handy.

I don’t know of a tool that performs this universally for all CF. Maybe one exists?

However you can use RUFUS to format a CF card on a modern PC as a FREEDOS bootable drive and that works in my experience for all fixed disk or removable CF media. I do this with all my CF cards now, then copy the W9X installation files onto the card to run after boot. It’s fine if they are removable media for DOS or 95/98, but XP is problematic with them. https://techlabs.blog/categories/guides/creat … s-on-windows-10
