I've got experience taking apart the original Compaq Portable. I now have the "286" version and the back panel that provides access for removing the motherboard will not come off. I believe there is a point in the middle of the panel that screws into the motherboard. I've tried "forcing" it as much as I'm comfortable with as I don't want to damage it. See the photo where I circled the issue in yellow. Does anyone have experience with this machine? I have access to the motherboard from the other side and do not see where I could unscrew it if that is indeed the issue. I can't remove the floppy or hard drive cages without accessing it from the other side.
