I'm trying to get Promise EIDE 2300 Plus working on FIC 486-GIO-VT in VESA slot 0 and can't get it to recognize IDE drive. It recognizes Floppy drive, but not IDE. During boot I see the EIDE2300 BIOS post message reporting BIOS version 3.3, but then I get the non system disk boot message. If I boot from floppy and run EIFDISK.exe from the Promise install disk, I get an error message "Controller 170h Not Found!!".

I disabled IDE and Floppy controller that's on the motherboard.

I tried in BIOS to setup primary disk drive as Nothing, Type 1 and Type 47. Neither worked.

Can you help.

Also, does anyone have a PDF of the original EIDE2300 manual? I have the jumper settings, but not full manual.

Thank you.

The GIO-VT normally has a promise VLB IDE controller onboard. To disable it, several jumpers need to be altered.
(There´s also a version without this chip, then the Winbond super-I/O takes care of IDE and must be disabled.)

Did you check all the settings in the manual?

Thanks for the advice, I figured it out. Originally I had IDE and FDC jumpers disabled, but there was one more jumper that needed to be disabled labeled "Local IDE Select".
