Have Win98 and WinXP systems running. Now, I'm looking into a Win95. Thought about getting a Socket 7 with Pentium 200 MMX but I have a spare Asus P3B-F with a PII 400 MHz and 64 MB RAM. The P3B-F CD has Win95 chipset drivers so that would help. I could get a PII 233 and go with 32 MB RAM. For video, I was thinking a PCI option. Any ideas? thx

Socket 7 and Windows 95 are a good match. The farther you go into Slot-1/Socket-370 land the more of a hassle it becomes to get Win95 to take advantage of their bells and whistles.

Agree with appiah4. Of course Windows 95 will run on a fast 486, but if you want a fast snappy system, go for a socket 5 or 7 Pentium or K6.

i386 16 ⇒ i486 DX4 100 ⇒ Pentium MMX 200 ⇒ Athlon Orion 700 | TB 1000 ⇒ AthlonXP 1700+ ⇒ Opteron 165 ⇒ Dual Opteron 856

I'll echo the above recommendations for a Socket 7 Pentium MMX or K6 build for Windows 95.

I have a Pentium MMX 200 build that I use for both Windows 95 and DOS 6.22. I have multiple CF cards with different OS installs. I can just swap them depending on which OS I want to use.

You'll have plenty of options when it comes to PCI graphics cards. I used a Cirrus Logic GD-5434 and an ATI Rage II for Windows 95 with my Pentiums back in the day. Matrox cards would also offer era appropriate options.

I've got a Matrox G200 paired with a Pentium MMX for Windows 95 (and other OSs) right now.
