121mb Conner CP2124 Jumper Confusion

Hi
I am trying to set up a 121mb Hard Drive on an old 486 laptop.

From what I have googled I need to use a jumper to select Single.

However there seem to be two jumper locations, the standard ones by the 44pin connector but also 4 underneath.

From what I understand CD need to be closed, but I am not really sure which CD are.

Can anyone please help?

This link is sort of useful but has a 40 pin IDE connector rather than 44pin, and I am surprised the same model number would be used for a 2.5 and 3.5 drive??

https://www.computerhope.com/hdd/hdd0032.htm

Thanks so much
Louis

drive settings; the status of hardware Jumper M/S and the firmware
setting of a feature bit. When (M/S) is closed, and the feature bit
is set, the drive will assume the role of a Master Drive. When (M/S)
is open, and the feature reset, the drive will act as the Slave. In
single drive configurations M/S must remain in the closed position.

CD means drive C (master/primary) or drive D (slave/secondary)
It seems like you have to install the jumper to short both right pins.

The problem I have is this drive has two set of jumper pins, the usual 4 by the 44pin IDE connector and then 4 underneath that say CD so I'm not sure which to close?

Hi,
I'm not sure which set of jumpers the diagram refers to?

Ah, the manual doesn't correspond to the actual hardware.

the 2 jumpers (4pins) on the same line as the ide interface are, if i'm not mistaken, the same ones as the 4 pins on top. ( a continuity test with a multimeter can verify this)
You should set either the ones on the pcb, or the ones in line with the IDE interface. not both.
the way I read the pcb, I would assume that the C/D jumper is the pair closest to the edge of the board, ie closest to the C/D labeling on the pcb.
but I'm just guessing.

Right to repair is fundamental. You own it, you're allowed to fix it.

Testing for continuity , that's a great suggestion, I should have thought of that! Just tested, there's no reading to suggest any pins are connected from either location to the other.

Bizarre

Keep in mind Conner drives are not up to industry standards on IDE interfacing for single and master/slave interfacing. Best to put this drive as single on one IDE port.

I think you have missed entire thread ?

It's a 2.5" Laptop Hard Drive and so by default is a single on one IDE. I'd love to set as single, I can't find a manual/web page, that perfectly my drive. 😭

Usually it is not jumpered at all.

Use a vintage PC and 40pin to 44pin adapter. Keep in mind early 2.5" drives are fussy with later computers.

Cheers,

I know. However every version of text I've read for this drive, even though slightly different all suggest a jumper is needed. Plus the first thing I did was connect without a jumper, as I hadn't read any text initially

What manual says:

Single or Master, set this jumper this way. (default).
Slave, no jumper.

No jumper is for the connection if using pin 28 (master/slave is done via the cable itself), on the IDE interface that is CS mode.

Remember, you cannot set up any Conner with another drive on the same cable. Due to poorly designed IDE interface chipset on Conner's. Best solution is use non-conner drive.

I know buddy. The issue is that I can't figure out which set of jumpers and which pins.....

Since only M/S needs to stay closed for single operation.

Which jumper settings have you tried, besides none and the one shown in the earlier posted photo, considering you only have to look at 1 block of 4pins , and (I think) you may ignore the ones in line with the ide connector.
I think that leaves only 3 possibilities. Well 4 if you take into account that the drive may be a dud and no amount of playing with the jumpers will change that.
