Which jumper settings have you tried, besides none and the one shown in the earlier posted photo, considering you only have to look at 1 block of 4pins , and (I think) you may ignore the ones in line with the ide connector.
I think that leaves only 3 possibilities. Well 4 if you take into account that the drive may be a dud and no amount of playing with the jumpers will change that.

Without having the correct instructions I am stabbing in the dark.

Assuming these 4 pins even do anything, I've tried no jumper and a jumper on every possible option. Sometimes I get Fixed Disk Errror Sometimes Fixed Disk Controller Error.

I'll try the pins by the IDE next.

I am assuming having a jumper in the wrong place for a maximum 1 minute can't damage anything.

Cheers,

Did you read anything in this thread? Whatever manual/text info can be found on the net doesn't line up with the actual drive.

Here's a 3d scan someone made of the drive. https://www.autodesk.com/community/gallery/pr … 2-5inch-ide-hdd

The jumpers on the pcb are not in the location where the text/manual says they are.

And looking at the text again, I will now vote against putting a jumper on the, what is listed in the text that was linked to in the comment I'm replying to, 'Factory test points'

Going from the jumper on the 3d scan, there is only one other option. If neither of those work, then I consider the drive to be toast.
True, there might still be a tiny chance that something with the state of pin28 is causing troubles.

Right to repair is fundamental. You own it, you're allowed to fix it.

Agree that the "Conner doc" shows the jumpers on other side of the pcb. You cannot hurt the drive by trying the jumpers, I would try with MS closed... if no work then try w/o a jumper.
Noted looking at my laptop 44pin to 40pin adapter, laptop pin 28 Psync: CSel (cable select) is connected to pin 28 IDE ALE.

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

Hi,
The problem is I don't know which two jumpers are MS. Is it these two I've marked red?
