I have a HDD a Matrox fireball 40GB.
Issue is the system wont recognise it at all.

I am trying to do a fresh install, though it is never recognised in bios. Have tried primary onboard IDE and a IDE interface card.

In BIOS it shows up as Large I cannot change it to LBA either. Mobo is an INTEL 440BX/ZX.

It recognises other drives, though another WD 40GB same thing.

There's your problem. 😉

Have you tried the disk in another system?

Some models have jumpers to limit their capacity. Also, you can try entering the parameters for 32GiB.

Fireball is by Quantum, so neither Matrox nor Maxtor.

Anyway, I also think the 32 GB limit is the problem.

Nie tylko, jak widzicie, w tym trudność, że nie zdołacie wejść na moją górę, lecz i w tym, że ja do was cały zejść nie mogę, gdyż schodząc, gubię po drodze to, co miałem donieść.

Actually....(insert nerd picture)

There was a Maxtor Fireball, the Fireball disk when Quantum was acquired by Maxtor. It was already 8n development, so they kept the name Fireball.

FireMax or DiamondBall were the other two options.

Yes Maxtor Fireball 3 40GB ATA133 https://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/maxtor/en … _data_sheet.pdf
Jumpers are listed on the label, yes there is an HD size limit jumper (probably sets it to 8GB)...most likely a board BIOS issue...

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

It does recognise via the PCI Card I have [Bright Dual channel Ultra ATA 100/133 IDE PCI card] and a billion cables, though not via IDE one on Mobo.

INTEL 440BX/ZX is the mobo.
HDD MODEL - Maxtor Fireball 3 40GB 3.5" IDE HDD Ultra-ATA/133 5400 RPM 2MB Cache 2F040L0

I have never updated a BIOS of this age before so how do I tell what I need to download and what to do?

Thanks.
