Hello.

I have p4-2.66 northwood (533mt/s bus speed, 512kb cache)

And I have an msi motherboard that supports 400 to 800mt/s

But it won't allow me to select 100mhz(400mt/s) for this cpu.

I have another mobo, it allows, ok.
When I use 400mt/s cpu on msi mobo, it works at 400mt/s.

I have read somewhere else that but shorting pins BSEL0 and BSEL1 I could fool mobo into thinking that this is a 400mt/s cpu.
Is this true, and how can I do the actual mod - shorting these pins? (I have experience in electronics, but of course always good to ask experience)
Have anyone do this before? Where can I find the pinout information?

(Mod can be temporary or permanent - doesn't matter, whichever is simpler I prefer that)

Thanks in advance!

You need both BSEL0 and BSEL1 to be low for 400MT/s.

533MT/s is BSEL0 high and BSEL1 low.

It’s been a while since I’ve messed with them so I can’t remember if you would be OK pulling low by bridging both BSEL pins or if that would result in both being high. You might need to bridge BSEL 0 to VSS.

Here’s an image flipped to show the view of the underside of the CPU, I’ve only flipped the labels of the pins around BSEL and VID, so the rest are backwards garbage 😁
