Dear all,

On my MB I am not able to auto-enable PIO modes (larger 1 I would assume)

- I use the vesa ide connector
- Linear transfer is 1,8mb max
- when I load adi2 fast IDE driver it enables PIO 4 with up to 10mb measured
- driver is buggy and also blocks win95 to boot
- if I warm restart w/o the driver the PIO4 stays enabled also within win95. Bench’s clearly show
- also tried via EZdrive extension with all enabled but this won’t enable pio4
- there is no BIOS option nor jumper (I could find)

Any idea how to fix this? I mean having pio4 opened by default within DOS and Win95. I’m quite happy that I could even „enclose“ the issue quite a bit.

Thanks

Hi Marco,

On my CH-471B Rev 1.0 I’m using this line in CONFIG.SYS:

DEVICE=ADI2C149.SYS initonly

The “initonly” switch initializes the ADI/2 timing registers for the maximum PIO mode of your HDD, without loading this DOS I/O driver in memory. Works fine here with Win95.
During boot I see this message from the driver:

Note that I’m using a Conner 420MB HDD here that can do PIO mode 3 max.

The ADI/2 driver package I use is from 1994 and meant for DOS/Win3.1. But with this “initonly” switch, it is still usable for Win95.
Member @Paar made this driver package available in his Re: Speed issues on integrated VLB IDE controller on 486 board thread.
