Hi all,

As some of you might have noticed, I started my new YouTube channel called "HP Palmtop Tube" nearly 3 months ago:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCVChzZ62a-c4MdJWyRwdCQ

I've made a moderate amount of videos, some of which have been well received and other less so, but, overall things seem to be going well.
I don't have a lot of subscribers and views/likes yet, but that's to be expected after such a short time.

I've got a nice list of interesting ideas for future videos I will be producing during 2022,
but, I decided to make this post to ask all of you for more ideas for videos you would like to see on my new channel.

My main aim of the channel is to make videos that are educational (whenever I present an old/retro technology I try to provide some history
and technical explanation of it as a decent part of my viewers are too young to have experienced said technology/device/software themselves,
so my aim is to produce videos that are on the same technical level as say "The 8bit guy", eg, a similar audience.
I also, besides reviewing games, try to make videos that take the capabilities of these palmtops to their limits,
such as my successful SCSI-2 and Minix videos.
I also am going to be using DOSBOX more in my upcoming videos for demonstrations on how to mount
many floppies at the same time to install software on a large amount of floppy disk images etc...

I'm ready to make any kind of video about any kind of subject, as long as it involves the use of an HP 95LX, 100LX or 200LX Palmtop. (preferably the 100 and 200LX)
Besides the larger/longer technical videos about usually hardware/upgrades/peripherals/software/OSes etc...,
I also have my "Will it Play?" game review series, where I will aim to review at least one game every week on the 200LX,
and score its fitness to run on the Palmtop, and also place it on a ranked list of the best games out there that people
can install and enjoy playing on these Palmtops.

Besides HP DOS Palmtops, I also have a number of other Palmtops such as every Psion Series 3 and Series 5 that were made,
and if there is interest, I'm happy to make videos about those too, but, since they are more "closed" platform,
eg, they lack the flexibility the HP DOS Palmtops have and the compatibility with hundreds of thousands of applications for MS-DOS,
I think some videos featuring machines from my Psion collection could be interesting to produce...
For example, I used a Psion 3a as a dumb terminal over a null-modem serial line in my Minix on the 200LX video.

So please, if you have any ideas or requests, whatever it may be, please reply to this topic and let me know what you'd love to see on my channel.

Thank you for your time! 😀

Cheers,
Radiance

Hello Radiance,

HP Palmtop seems quite a limited platform, so it is great to see what you can squeeze out of it !
I personally enjoyed your Ventura Publisher video. And of course all experiments with my sound cards.
I think, the bigger the challenge, the more interesting the video...

Some ideas :
- Try to find DOS demos (from https://www.pouet.net/ ?) that can run on the palmtop ?
- Any interfacing with devices : sound cards, web cams, hand scanner, network, .... ?
- Try out historic tips and tricks, and software, as referenced in the palmptoppapers : see https://www.palmtoppaper.com/ptphtml/index.htm
- Try out overclocking, and make benchmarks for different overclock speeds (seems to go up to 32Mhz, see https://www.palmtoppaper.com/ptphtml/31/31000024.htm)

Good luck with the channel !

Thanks for your support !

Thanks for your feedback, I really appreciate it! 😀

Running some MS-DOS demos would be a good idea, are there any people around who know which ones are the best to try ?
I'm not involved in the demoscene, so I'm not up to date on the latest/best demos for slow x86 machines...

They have to support CGA graphics though, and should support a slow CPU, a 186 @ 16Mz, which is somewhat comparable to a 286 at 8MHz or 10MHz

I've already overclocked the hornet SOC in the palmtop to 32MHZ /2 = 16MHz CPU clock, which seems to be the fastest possible speed while
maintaining %100 system stability... There are reports of people trying 40MHz crystals to get a 20MHz clock, but several problems arise,
and it's not %100 stable... So i don't think I can jack it up anymore...

If anyone else has any good ideas, please them post here 😀

Thanks,
Radiance

You could do a video about network access and webbrowsing, there are a few browsers available that work on the 200lx.

Yes, It's on my list 😀
I'm going to install my NE2000 compatible, 200LX compatible network card in one HP200LX,
install mTCP and configure it, and then browse webpages and log in with FTP into a 2nd HP200LX running Minix, connected with a null modem PPP link to a raspberry PI PPP server,
which is running the ftp and http server daemons 😀 Would'nt that be a cool setup? 😀 🤣

I've still got quite a lot of work to do,
mainly shaving features off the httpd on minix to make it fit in the tiny amount of memory I have left,
or, I can use a small http server I wrote a few years back in C that's only 4KB large,
it only supports HTTP 1.1 GET requests and stream files, but that's good enough for my video i think...
