This forum has survived much more than many others. Because of the myriad of useful information present here. I regret not joining it earlier.

VOGONS: 20th Anniversary Retro Edition? Sure, why not!

logo-20anniversary.jpg

It is gratifying for me to see how long and how well VOGONS has remained relevant, especially given how many online community spaces have been absorbed by the big corporate social networking sites. Happy anniversary to you all, and thank you to the whole community for keeping this space alive and well.

I love the logo's Scanimate vibe. Anybody who watched TV in the 70s and 80s will have seen this style of visual art in station IDs, commercials, news show intros, etc . Those were generated using an analogue computer called Scanimate.

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scanimate and especially this about the last of the Scanimate analogue visual fx computers still being maintained and used http://www.scanimate.com/

It's a fascinating read, IMHO and there are videos on youtube and a documentary for sale on the Scanimate site .

Again IMHO, this is very much in the spirit of Vogons.

Happy Birthday Vogons!

This calls for terrible poetry

20 years have passed,
and I'm glad I coud be assed,
to join here eventually,
after googling you incessantly.
many years without posting.
so I am glad you are hosting.
all the vulminous retro knowledge,
and like goldilocks final bowl of porridge
It's just right.

Beautiful. Here is mine.

Light as a feather
It brings nerds together
The love of things
Like old trinkets and springs
Vogons is king
Of the website we sing

Birds sing of PCB!
Silence!

Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz would be proud. Arthur Dent not so much.

I'm considered a posting newbie here but I simply can't calculate how many times this forum has helped me over the years. Both directly and indirectly.

I imagine posting here one may never feel the appreciation of those helped, but it doesn't stop those who have taken the time to.

Thanks to all at Vogons for your years of existence!

makes it sound vulnerable 🙁

if vogons went then retro pc discussion would dissipate to various small islands of social media and tiny unsustainable forums set up by earnest enthusiasts, it would effectively be over

forums may be web 1.0 i agree and with that they have a number of advantages over other forms (not least showing up on search engine results)

The answer that I haven't got is, who takes care of the site 😀
