I don't know is somebody else has had the same problem I was having, but if you do here's the solution.

I don't know why but the BOM archive manager and Stuffit seem to corrupt some of the files contained in the .zip (specially .exe files) when they are extracted, making the games unplayable with dosbox, this seems to happens with most of the files I've found in sites like abandonia or the underdogs, to solve it you'll need to download a pretty nifty app called the unarchiver you can get it here http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/apps/unarchiver.html

after you download it and install it (just drag the .app file to your applications folder) look for the .zip file select it with the mouse and press cmd+i to get the info in the open with option select the unarchiver and then press change everything, done!
