Yet another q...
anyone knows of a good codec pack for win9x?
I don't like games installing their own clutter (for example wheel of time installed quick time 4 when all I needed was the codec...) and would like to have a bunch of codecs already in the system so I can opt out to install players and extra stuff that comes with them...
any ideas?

but that's only for mpeg4 stuff... tried the last win9x k-lite codec pack version 2.88f ... although you can play .mov files from mpc just fine it won't work with Wheel of Time for example. The movies just skip. Installing the awful QT fixes that...

Combined-Community-Codec-Pack-2007-07-22 for 98/ME
ffdshow_rev1458_20070905_clsid for 95
ffdshow_rev2352_20081124_clsid for 98/ME
K-Lite Codec Pack v3.4.5 for 98/ME

VLC 1.1.9 with KernelEX if you don't want to worry about codecs (for playing videos of course not for games)

I'm pretty sure I used Quicktime Alternative on Win98 at one point. I have no idea when support for that was dropped, though.

If we are talking about quick time alternative from the makers of the Klite codec pack, then give me a PM. Cause I think Apple went and said ghostly booh to them. Cause it is not on their site. Which is right here

So PM me for the quicktime alternative.

Fortunately there are a bazillion hits for it on Google. http://www.oldapps.com/quicktime_alt.php even has a nice archive of old versions.

I will try all those and report which one worked...

@DosFreak: when I downloaded k-lite3.00f it would not install and said I should grab 2.88f which is the last version supporting win9x. Will search your pack though 😀

According to this 3.0.1 is not for 9x
3.4.5 is: http://www.oldapps.com/k-lite_codec_pack.php? … _klite_codec=67
