So, I've been curious about this for a little while now. On a large number of posts I've read through my time here at vogons, it appears as though a number of you work in the IT industry. Just going by the "a customer brought this computer in for repair" so I'm just assuming. I'm sure we don't all work in the IT industry though as what we all love is retro computers/hardware which is our hobby to say the least.
I don't work in the IT industry at all. I considered it several times over the years but after seeing my 2 friends spend years at university and now have to listen to them complain about their work I chose not to go down that path. One friend does networking and repairs for medium to large businesses and the other does programming. I always wanted to get into making games but there are no decent game companies down here in Australia. The ones that did work on some big games seem to have gone bankrupt or sold up to overseas companies.
Anyway, back to why I initially opened this thread. I'll go first! I work 2 jobs. My first job is for my family business in the hazardous area electrical field. We basically sell specialised equipment for explosive atmospheres to prevent explosions from occurring in places like refinerys, service stations as well as anywhere where there is a chance of an explosion.
My second job which is mainly all night shifts is for the police in communications. We take the triple zero calls (basically like Americas 911) and despatch the police units to all their jobs. This job I absolutely love and have been there for the past 6 years now. I love this job, as stressful as it can sometimes be, because every shift is always different and I get a sense of achievement when helping the public. I've always tried to help people whenever I could so now I get to do it for a career 😀
I look forward to hearing everyone else's career paths. Oh and don't be embarrassed of whatever you may do. If I see anyone put down anyone else, I will be reporting them. Plus there's no need for it. This is all for fun and to get to know eachother a bit better 😀
