Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit

Here's a bit of a story for you: Back in the 90's I was a PlayStation kid, didn't fully see the shining light of PC gaming until around 2000/2001. One game we had for PS1 was my brothers Need for Speed II. It wasn't amongst my personal favorites but it was a fun arcade racer, fun enough to consider getting the PS1 version of NSF3 after I started seeing ads for it in magazines during the time it was launched in 1998.

Back then some of my friends had PC's but none had the cash to get 3D cards when the 3D revolution started. I never saw 3D accelerated Quake until much later. I remember seeing Forsaken and Half-Life but I have no idea were they 3D accelerated or just in software mode. While they were pretty, they didn't blow me away. Then one day I visited a buddy of mine and I saw the PC version of NSF3 in its full 3D accelerated glory. That was the first and only time a game has totally floored me with graphics, I've seen many impressive looking games, games that have made me stop and just admire what I'm seeing, but 3D accelerated NSF3 utterly and completely dropped my jaw to the floor when I saw it back then, it was amazing.

I never bought the PS1 version of NSF3. Also I don't think I played the PS1 version of NFS2 all that much after that either 🤣

Found them in a local store.
Crackdown was something I already had the digital version of, but I've started to prepare for Xbox Live getting shut down for the X360. Also the non Xbox Classics version became a little uncommon. Though there is still a lot of crap on the cover I dislike. I'd prefer if those were removable stickers.

As for Saints Row 2, I have it on Steam too, but it's not the best PC port in the world. Also I'd thought I'll celebrate Volition's death with a good SR game.

Crackdown may well be the Xbox 360 game I had the most fun with, and the only time I genuinely enjoyed an open world game..

Got Bioshock from the Humble Store. I'd prefer the retail version, but that one has online activation. The Humble Store version is DRM-free and unlike the GoG version, doesn't come with the remastered version.

Need for Speed: Underground

Never played Need for Speed so I decided to try Underground, which I believe is considered one of the best in the series.

It was great when it was new, but some things have not aged well. Mainly its the AI that rubber-bands and its turned up to 11. It's still a game that I like to re-visit along with Need for Speed 3

My builds!
The FireStarter 2.0 - The wooden K5
The Underdog - The budget K6
The Voodoo powerhouse - The power-hungry K7
The troll PC - The Socket 423 Pentium 4

Rubberband AI is the absolute worst

And this one has the worst rubberbanding in the entire series.

Edit: Also, I just found there is a no-rubberbanding mod.

So that's why I couldn't distance the other cars 😁

BTW, I had fun playing the game, except the drift challenges...

Yeah, I never got the appeal of those myself. Were for some reason still liked by my teenager classmates when it came out. All this talk of Need for Speed made me install and complete it on my deck. Even did the "remove performance upgrades for some of the 6 lap races to make it fair" trick.

For the same price as Red Baron yesterday, I managed to buy myself a second copy of Rebel Assault.

Second copy, because I also happen to have the worst possible version physically as well. Never play it on SegaCD. It's even lower quality.

Everything left of GRID was a freebie. Games that the seller claims he has a lot of and no one wants to buy them so he gave it to me as compensation for my previous purchase when I received Art of Conquest instead of Empire Earth, even though he refunded me and I told the freebies are unnecessary.

Thi Sims: On Holiday - I don't have the base game for this. It came with a manual.

The Sims 2 - I wouldn't have bought it, but don't mind having it. I played some of it back in the days. Good condition, came with manual and other inserts. Installs and plays.

Empire Earth - I wanted a retail copy of this game for a while, I already had the GoG version. Sold Out bargin bin version, no manual. Installs and plays.

Sim City 3000 - Sold Out bargin bin version, no manual, the disc is a little dirty, but not many scratches. I guess I'll try it on my Win98 machine (once I get it back up). I mildly enjoyed Sim City 4.

Race Driver GRID - Up until now I used the GoG version for retro games. This one is released by CD Project. Cardboard outer box, thick DVD case inside, came with a manual, the disc is in good condition. Installs and launches, but when I open the graphics settings, the game crashes and after that crashes upon launch until I delete the config file. Then it repeats if I enter the graphics settings again. Either it needs to be patched, or it somehow conflicts with the GoG version that was previously installed. I'll investigate later.

Rush for Berlin - Cardbord box, there is a little wear on it, but otherwise good condition. Looks worse on the photo than in real life. The disc is in like-a-new condition, came with a manual. Installs and plays.

XIII - 4CDcardboard box version. A little bit worn, both the box and the discs, nothing serious on the discs, the box however is as bad as it looks. Installs and plays.

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault - I already had the EA Classics version, but I wanted the non-bargin bin release. Now the cover art covers the full front cover 😁 The discs are also in good condition. Came with a manual and a separate install guide.

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault: Spearhead - I didn't own this expansion until now, got it just to make my MOHAA collection complete. Came with a manual, though localised as well as the box, so it stands out like a sore thumb among the base game and Breakthrough. Installs and plays.

Soldier of Fortune - Xplosiv bargin bin in a different bargin bin's box, a sheet of paper as a manual. Installs, and plays on my XP rig with the community patch, crashes on launch without it. Probably something is too modern for the game to tolerate.

Yeah, it was kinda surprising. Most of the other games that got dropped off at the place I got it from were mostly missing things.

I bought Settlers II a few days ago. It's some DVD box version, the box was a bit damaged but the disk seems alright.
