Anyway, just found an FM Towns version of Strike Commander for "merely" US $141.50. Is it expensive or cheap?

Never thought this thread would be that long, but now, for something different.....

😳

this costs a fortune! I'd never pay that much for a game (or 2 games). Luckily for me that all the old games I want are well within my budget (e.g. Where in Space is Carman Sandiego?) 😁

I wonder if the time will come when these classics will sell for thousands or even a cool million bucks?

To me it's expensive. But for someone like Bill Gates it's cheap, and besides, Bill Gates might figger out how to play this import on a U.S. computer system.

Oh, I suppose I shall dispense with the .... long time lurker of posts, first time posting and all that, from me an all around classic adventure game fan person here with his first post...

SQ4 isn't that rare when it is the 256 Colour talkie Cd version, the 3.5 floppy versions are a bit more, the 5.25 floppy versions are the rarest. Especially the 16 colour 5.25 version.

However the rarest of of the SQ games is SQ1 black box original, 5.25 classic... If you ever see one of these, well I'd say get it, but I am after one myself, the cheapest I've ever seen one on ebay was $500.00

Here are some screen shots for what to look for...

Most of the FM Towns games sell for prohibitive prices. I wonder if all FM Towns owners or enthusiasts are really Vintage junkies like Classic PC enthusiasts, or if the FM Towns versions are really sought after by them. Have you seen the FM Towns version of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis Japanese version ( 199 Euros)? It's being sold by a German. I wonder how did the Japanese version landed up in Germany...

Why list to active auctions of items that haven't sold yet for the price listed?
It only shows how arbitrary these prices are.

You can put up a sealed copy of Monkey Island on there for $800, but it doesn't prove anything.

Put it up for $1 and see what it ends at and you'll have an indication of what it is perceived to be worth with availability and demand in action at that moment.

This is not a QEMM error.

Now that's the real deal.

PC games just don't have that kind of momentum.

SOmebody got taken for a ride. You can get a used version of One unit whole Blood for 40 bucks at Amazon, and a new version for 250 buck.
But then I have found that A LOT of Ebay users are suckers, and don't relise with a little searching you can often find stuff a LOT cheaper on the Internet, and you don't have to bid for it.......

I had an 8MHz 286 clone as my main PC from like 1987 through 1994ish, and it only had 5.25" disk drives. As a result, most of the old games that I own original disks of are 5.25". Space Quest IV was the first Sierra adventure game I bought (I owned Thexder and Firehawk previously), and it was the 256-color 5.25" floppy version. I still have the box (at least the jacket anyways; I tossed many of the plain boxes that the jackets go over in order to save space) and most of its contents, but they're probably not all together.

After buying SQ4, I bought a dozen other Sierra games - mostly through mail-order. I got the 256-color SCI remake of SQ1 on 5.25" in the old SQ1 box via a mail-order deal, then later bought the EGA version of the SQ1-3 pack box from a store on 3.5", which came with both the 16-color SCI remake of SQ1 and the old AGI version. I think I thus own every version of SQ1 that was released for PC 🤣.

My favorite game box that I saved though is the EGA version of Starflight in the flat fold-out box: http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/starflight/cover-art . Starflight was the first PC game I got from a store; it was a Christmas ('87?) present from my parents. I lost the code wheel when we moved in 1990, but it showed up again when we moved out a year or two later, so I have all the pieces from the original package (except maybe for a registration card). Looks like it sells for $100+ on ebay hehe. I also have the box and contents for Starflight 2.

I quit bidding on ebay right after I got that MS Space Simulator - then I discovered Amazon.com, and ebay's "buy it now" button - so now when I buy on ebay I never bid anymore but I head straight for the "Buy It Now" stuff.
