Lately I've been attempting to clone ME from one drive to another but I've encountered a problem.
I want to be able to clone ME (and I greatly prefer either manually, which is how I attempted this) so I don't have to go through the setup every time again. Second reason is for ease of tweaking.
This is how I proceeded so far:
First I used Virtual PC to set up an English version of ME. The base ME that resulted from this is untweaked in any way after setup had completed.
I set my local computer to display all hidden files, system files, etc.
Then I used WinImage to extract all files from the virtual harddrive and put them on my USB drive in a folder.
I then used another XP Pro machine to set up partitions on a new disk using the harddrive tools (creating partitions, primary and secondary, quickformatting with FAT32 (the drive was pre-formatted and is good) and making the primary drive active.
The XP install is in Ducth, more on this later
Then I copied that windows ME directory from my USB drive to the XP rig.
Then I copied the content of that ME directory to the primary and active partition of the new drive.
Now comes the problem: When I try to boot from the drive, it asks me to insert a bootable device...in DUTCH. But the ME install is English.
Does this have something to do with that little hidden 8MB partition XP always creates?
What am I overseeing here? Anyone have any hints?
