Take a look at Supermicro P6SBA motherboards on ebay. The pricing is crazy for some reason and people seem to be purchasing them. Its just a run of the mill 440BX ATX motherboard, nothing special at all. No crazy overclocking, no onboard SCSI. It even has the infamous AMI WinBIOS. Does anyone know if this board happened to be used in some special piece of equipment? I have one, perhaps I should sell it.

What I like to do when I notice a trend like that that doesn't seem to make any sense is to look up some old reviews of the part to see if there's anything special about it. In this case, I see no reason why this board should sell so high. The reviews I have been able to find say it's just a basic motherboard with no special features that would make it stand out from other similar motherboards. It is somewhat fast for what it is, but has no built in overclocking options and THG notes compatibility issues with a lot of different plug in cards. Maybe it's the Supermicro name that is driving it, but it is a pretty low end product compared to other motherboards that Supermicro has produced. It's definitely not up to the same level of quality as the server boards they are famous for.

Possibly because it has 3 ISA slots?

Who knows, probably just people cashing in on the retro DOS computing craze.

DOS Gaming System: MS-DOS, AMD K6-III+ 400/ATZ@600Mhz, ASUS P5A v1.04 Motherboard, 32 MB RAM, 17" CRT monitor, Diamond Stealth 64 3000 4mb PCI, SB16 [CT1770], Roland MT-32 & Roland SC-55, 40GB Hard Drive, 3.5" Floppy Drive.

Hard to find as they are, an nx586 motherboard with CPU is NOT worth $550, especially not the VL-bus boards.

The same seller also has an nx586 by itself for $150. It's one of the unmarked types, though, so you're buying a pig in a poke. Is it the more common 80/90mhz rated model or the faster and rarer 120/133mhz model? You won't know until you get it home and install it in a system to find out if you've overpaid and by then it's too late.

Oh and that guy from China with the built in floating point version dropped his asking price from $850 to $500 a while ago but I think he's still being overly optimistic about how much it is worth.

This one made me laugh. "A few bent pins" (i.e. nearly all of them), 30 bucks PLUS 13 bucks to post CPU chip - what a steal!

Life? Don't talk to me about life.

In Russia you can easily buy an Am486-66 in such condition (untested with bent pins) for $3.

By the way, is there a way to make strikethrough effect here?

What do you think a reasonable price for a DX2 66 would be? Clearly $30 is too much but, what, $10-$15?

DX2-66 is probably the most common of all 486 chips out there so you shouldn't pay too much for them. $10 is probably OK for a single chip, but I've seen them for as low as $6 or $7 each in bulk lots.

$550? I don't think so. If those were selling for that much, I would put my entire Nexgen collection up for sale right now. I'll probably never sell mine, though, because they are too hard to replace. 🤣

I have a few of them, I was asking because I'm offloading a bunch of CPUs, and wanted some figure to work with. In the end, I just chucked all of the chips up with a $8 reserve, and $15 BIN.
