What is the lesser pair of your monitor speakers? And how do you obtain digital output from PAS16?

Also, how did you get that dual-rack table? Is it custom-built?

It's a pair of Roland DS-30A monitors. They're connected directly to the VSR-880 digital recorder, via TOSLINK, solely for "mixdown" purposes. (The COSM-based speaker-modeling features of the VS8F-2 effects board are used to mimic the properties of larger and smaller speaker setups.)

And how do you obtain digital output from PAS16?

Perhaps I should have phrased it differently, but I was referring to PCM and Red Book audio playback, and not an actual digital connection. For most games, any synthesized/MIDI-based music will be heard via the Roland monitors (with the exception of FM from the PAS-16), and speech/sound-effects/CD-audio will be heard through the Bose speakers.

The main machine has a Cambridge Soundworks DTT2500 speaker system.

The Apple IIgs and basement PC where most listening is done has a Marantz SR-940 receiver (video) hooked up to EPI 250 speakers. Its plenty loud, the best speakers are Made In New England. 😎

Ok, Kreshna, here you go :

As you might already know, my main setup is a 7.1 channel system using the Marantz SR-5002 AV Receiver :

The SR-5002 is down there.

The back view of the SR-5002 :

Using a Sony Sub-woofer SA-GN10:

It's a 20cm active sub-woofer.

There are an assortment of speakers - Aiwa, Philips and other local brands and a few pairs of tweeters added in, surrounding my room - about 20 in all.

I'll just post part of the room pictures showing the speakers placements:

Front Right Speakers :

Mid Left Speakers (under the table - the bottom most is a logitech subwoofer for the 486):

Rear Right Speakers:

And, part of an overview of my room :

I have posted pictures of my room before, and some may notice there are changes around it. These are the latest ones. Previously I have connected a PS2 and a PS3 to the Marantz revceiver, but have sold the PS3 and my PS2 slim needed a replacement. Currently the PS1 and my PII and another Athlon II based PC (which is basically a multiple emulators machine and a movie player) are connected to it. Thinking about getting a PS4 but currently a bit busy.

Just a pair of computer speakers without the usual flaws of hum or vibrating cases, they allow to connect a main PC and a retro PC at the same time (with very minor ground loops), and overall offer decent flexibility for the price. I wish they were a little bigger.

Headphones bought under recommendation by my former employer. They're badly worn now.

Just a comment regarding surround setups. I see a lot of setups with the surround speakers places totally wrong. They should not be "behind" but to the sides / a tiny bit behind.

All these monstrous outer-space sound machines that make you cry... they look pretty familiar... ah yes, these are standard Vogon spaceship equipment, arent they ? 😎
As for me, I cannot go external since 2010 (my first kid was born)
Now I am making my last stand at midnight in a remote corner of my room with this:

7.1 channel setup has additional rear side speakers on both sides. 8.1 channel setup has an additional speaker directly behind.

The picture above is correct for a 5.1 setup.

My setup is wrong then, but having a speaker sitting in the middle of the home office - which my wife uses too - just wasn't an option. Even mounting them on the wall raised a few eyebrows 😒

YEa I have that issue on my gaming PC. I use headphones and a Sound Blaster Z with headphone surround. It's the old CMSS-3D virtual surround technology and works very well 😀

Now that's what I would call serious surround gaming sound! 😁

Anyway, do you connect the surround receiver with the sound card's output using 5.1 discrete analog? I wonder how many sound card support DDL these days.

Never thought this thread would be that long, but now, for something different.....

It's a discreet 7.1 analog. Digital Optical connections are attached and switchable. DVD movies make use of the optical out via the DVD software to make use of the digital decoding. My PII connects via the Live! Drive's optical out in Windows 95 and the analog stereo for the dos audio.

Isn't Live! 5.1 only? If you connect it to a 7.1 receiver (like Marantz SR-5002), then a pair of input jacks would be empty. Does the receiver capable to upmix 5.1 to 7.1?
