It seems the main focus of my game playing falls in the pre-DX9 era. For games that came out say after 2000, is there any real need to have an authentic XP machine vs just installing and loading them up on a modern rig?
I can't find a single game in my own collection that I had slated for my XP machine that won't also run (arguably better) on my modern rig.
Anyone else having this kind of dilemma or is it just me?
EDIT:
Just to clarify, at least for me, the love to tinker is nowhere near as strong with machines and parts of the XP era and beyond. The market had commoditized and everything became a generic "Chip Y or Chip X, that's all you get to pick from" kind of situation.
For the most part, hardware got out of the way and the games got to shine through by this point. Kind of like when the micros all died off and it was a Mac or Windows world.
