Hi all,

What is the best "modern" antivirus for DOS?

Thanks. 😀

Haven't found one yet that updates and is usable on an old pc, I just use FPROT 3.16f with the /old switch and the virus database from 2009. Should cover all your needs in DOS checking.

Hey thanks, yeah I have F-Prot 3.16f on floppy, I kinda figured it was still viable for DOS but wasn't too sure. Do you know where I can find the latest virus database? All the official links I find on internet searches show up dead. 😵

Thanks. 😎

I've gotta admit, I'm a bit confused here... what's the point in having a 'modern' DOS antivirus program? It seems to me like anything with definitions from ~1998-2000 would be more than enough. It's pretty unlikely that you'd run across a DOS virus newer than the mid '90s anyhow.

And even if you're worried about Windows malware or whatnot lurking dormant amongst your DOS software, it'd probably be more effective just to hook the disk to a modern machine and run a scan with one of the current antivirus programs.

I remember that got them from the F-PROT forum, infact you might find my posts there.
Also the author replied to my request back then and said the DOS version was free now but it would not see any updates past 2009.
I am attaching the file I got from there, remember to use the /OLD switch .

edit: I just use it to scan old files directly on my DOS pc... obviously 2009 definitions are an overkill but why not? they contain all the DOS virus defs also 😊

The year is 2021, it's been nearly a decade.
Thank you! My Win 98SE box feels safer with all the random 'stuff' I'm testing on it 😀
