LOVE the matching cases pewpewpew! You just need the desktop version if there is one? How did you manage to get them?

Dumb luck. They're the AT cases I've kept of the many. Probably the nice power switches had a lot to do with it. I'm a sucker for good feels. Can't think of any desktop that had those switches, never mind the rest of it. Closest would be the big paddle-toggles that used to be on the side-rear, as part of the PSU case.

The oldest on my person is my 8800GT from 2008. I moved in 2009 and everything pre 2009 was left with family or thrown out. I just have that 8800GT.

My Roland SCC-1 - bought new in 1993. I got rid of most of my hardware over the years but somehow I managed to hang on to this card because I always thought it was more valuable than the rest...

My "Osborne 386SX" case. It was given to me by my grandad in... 1993...I think? It was bought new for him at his work, then brought home for me as a gift. I used it for games for a year or two, then stored it in the garage for nearly 10 years. At that point it was pressed in to service as a Pentium 200 based firewall system running Smoothwall Linux. Then it got put away again for a while, and finally about 3 years ago it found new life as a house for my 5x86 system. The case is still in great condition after all these years. (just yellowed plastic in the front, and a few superficial scuff marks which were cleaned since this photo was taken).

My plan is to make it a little more authentic, by building a 386 DX 40 system in to it, and transfer the 5x86 to a relatively more modern desktop case.

My Creative CT6670 cards and Genius Soundmaker Value (Yamaha OPL3 SAx) are the parts I owned the longest. One of the Voodoo 2 cards I got new - either for Christmas in 98, or early January 99 - can't remember - it was in the holiday season anyway. The other one I got SH quite a bit later - a bit after I moved to soket A. The soundcard I bought new as well - late 96 I think - since my 586 didn't come with a soundcard. Apart for these, there's my sister's K6-2 CPU + Lucky Star P5MVP3 mainboard (got them for her in 2000 or 2001), a 4GB samsung drive witch still works (this one came with my K6-2 rig) and a 40GB slim maxtor HDD - that one I got with my socket A rig. Also working fine.

I kept the K6 kit since my sister used it up untill 2004-2005, and by then no shop would take it in trade for an upgrade. The 4.3GB samsung HDD I kept over from my K6 since I didn't have enought money to buy a larger HDD when I got my duron. I replaced it after a couple of months with a 40gb drive, and put the 4GB drive in my sister's newly built K6. The 40GB was "misplaced" in the attic inside an old IDE-USB external rack - only came upon it last year. No ideea how it got there. It was the first "large" HDD I ever bought - 10x more storage then the old one. Still had windows xp installed as well as a few games I used to play. Even a Quake II level editor and custom levels I started and never finished 😀.

I still own this PC and all the upgrades I paid for:
Stiletto's GhettoPC (TM)
(Yes, I posted that in 2002.)
I haven't got it working in forever, it probably doesn't. Just gathers dust at the moment.

Still, technically my parents paid for half of it... so the first upgrade I bought for it, a Creative 3D Blaster Voodoo2, would be the oldest piece of PC hardware I own... I think...

Probably my Northgate Omnikey 102 keyboard purchased new in 1993 or so. In those days (pre Pentium) I would sell my old gear and buy new stuff after a year or so but I hung onto that keyboard. My oldest purchased computer would be my Timex 2068 from 1983, oldest purchased console is a 6 switch Atari 2600 (very late 70's? or 1980).

Probably a 2 megabyte EDO RAM stick that I stole from school back in 1993. It sat in my 486 for a while until my friend started asking questions as to why my RAM had suddenly doubled, and I freaked out and hid it in case I was rumbled.

Maybe I should return it, just to clear my conscience...

hmm... I still have an un-returned library book from when I was about 6 or 7. "This Is London". I wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat.. and the library doesn't even exist any more so I can't atone...

My 333MHz Pentium 2 bought in 1998.
Second oldest is the MS6163pro MB I bought in 1999 to replace the dead 440LX MB that came with the P2.
And third is the RIVA TNT Creative I also bought in 1999 😁

Oldest PURCHASED items would be a toss-up between my original Gravis Gamepad, my first Commodore 64, and King's Quest VI CD, all purchased circa 1993/1994 when I was 15/16, the latter in conjunction with my brother, who split the cost with me, and I had to buy out his portion years later. Oldest items would be my first computer, a Packard Bell 486-based PC, which I still have working to this day, still rocking the PAS-16 multimedia kit and extra 2mb ram I bought for it back in the day. Regret would be installing the SB Pro 2.0 that I purchased brand new right at the time that the SB16's came out for $245, which from my research at the time, was a good price. I built up a computer from parts that were given me for a friend's kid, with the stipulation that when he tired of it, the system came back to me. Guess what never came backto me.... Still have the box/software that came with it, and have since replaced the card (a half dozen times over, actually..)

I'm not entirely sure, but it's probably the MIDI cable from my Soundblaster Pro (don't have the card any more), currently in active use connecting to my Roland sound modules.

I still have a Realtek RTL 8139A PCI NIC, from 2001 or so. Possibly earlier than that. It's been used in 4 or 5 different PCs over the years. The last time it was in service was in a Pentium 4 Hackintosh, which had an Intel on-board network chip that was incompatible with OS X.

I was sharing an apartment with a friend, we bought a "home networking kit" or something like that. IIRC it came with two 8139 cards and a hub or switch. I don't think we even had broadband internet when we got it, it was bought mainly so that we could play Magic Carpet 2 or Dungeon Keeper or Quake or whatever we were playing at the time.

Probably the eternal Abit AN9-32x mobo and equally eternal full tower case Chieftec Dragon.

Dismissed a few time ago... the mobo supported that heavy and hot beast called AMD X2 6400+ Black Edition with high TDP, and it's working now for my girl's uncles.

I'd have to say my Dell Optiplex XL575. It's an ex-university machine I bought used in 1998. When purchased it had a 75mhz Pentium, 8mb ram, a 540mb hard drive, and no optical drive. Soon after acquiring it I upgraded to a 133mhz Pentium, 32mb ram, a 2gb hard drive, and installed a CD-ROM and an SB16. I'd still use it today, but the plastic that makes up the lower half of the chassis is cracking and turning to dust. It's a pity because it still runs great and is easily my quietest Win9x machine. 😢

Wow the Gravis Gamepad is easily the most common item on this thread. Maybe I'll compile a list of all items. I tried my Gamepad the other day - not detected. 🙁 I hope it can be saved. ..
