IMO the max value for the dollar are KOSS headphones usually.

I've a dozen reasons to hate the four letter "S" word, but their headphones are useable, if Koss didn't exist I guess I would have to buy them second hand and scratch off the logo.

I think that's a bit harsh. They made SOME nice models!

There is a company called Schiit Audio, but they don't make headphones.

I got the new hard drive and enclosure today. The enclosure uses an ASMedia ASM235CM, which passes SMART data. It actually seems like a nice chip, despite ASMedia's past reputation of making broken USB controllers. On the other hand, the power supply feels cheap, but I can get a new one for $10 on Digikey (or if it's a 2.5mm ID jack, I can use one that I already have) as long as it doesn't blow up and kill the drive. The one slightly annoying thing is that the outer cover screws are under the feet. If anyone is curious, the 5V regulator for drive power is an ETA1485 (3A synchronous buck - nice), and there is one electrolytic cap (100µF 25V Chongx with the crappy misspelled "VEHT" marking - not nice).

I'm currently transferring data as fast as the old 5400RPM SMR Seagate drive can go.

These arrived today. I need a working sound card with S/PDIF input before I can work on the MT-D47, but at least when I have one, I can!

I got a few spares. They were cheap as a bundle, and I haven't often seen short, well made TOSLINK cables. If I ever end up with some ADAT gear they'll be clutch.

Another weekend, another find at the flea market.

Its about time to start finding more AM4 stuff out there, its been out for 8 years now.

For 30 moneys I got myself a whole PC, just without a storage drive. Asrock A320m-DGS, Ryzen 2200G, A single 8GB stick of DDR4-2666 RAM, all packed in a beat up Spire case, powered by a crappy lightweight Spire PSU. Lack of used expansion slots indicate that integrated graphics were used. Not a great choice with only a single video output that happens to be DVI.

Replaced the CPU with a 1600AF, 16GB of DDR4-3200 (running @3000 because early Ryzen) and added a 256GB NVME drive. Will be my new work PC from now.

Put the 2200G in the Asus A320 board I got not too long ago, added another stick of DDR4-2666 and a bunch of other parts I had around and it ended up as an entry-level game PC which I could sell.

And it sold damn quick - within hours of me putting up the listing. AMD finally earned its performance reputation back.

I think I'm good on MIDI control surfaces now...

So, the complete list...

• A Roland GI-10 with GK-2A that's not currently installed on a guitar.
• A Studiologic VMK161 - hammer action weighted Piano controller.
• A Novation Launchpad Mini OG - simple LED grid controller, not analog.
• An Arturia The Laboratory 49 - a semi-weighted synth controller with a lot of knobs and buttons.
• And now, a Akai MPD32 rhythm pad controller. Not one of the rare, fancy things you can use drumsticks on but it has pressure sensitive pads with aftertouch and a huge amount of DAW control surfaces that can be programmed. Gonna create a custom Ardour profile for it.

I think it's fair to say I have every conceivable base covered when it comes to inputting MIDI data into a computer. Need to hack together some kind of two-level stand for them, which should be a fun project by itself.

Oh, and I also went to my "opium den" today, the local Raspberry Pi shop - walking out with another 02W (Minidexxed, maybe?), some adapter cables - and a 27W PSU for the World's Worst Recording Studio. According to reports, that should get me maybe 30% extra CPU performance, which should deal with the last few pops I was getting when doing IR modelling.

So that as the computer; the Alpha, UA-100 and Popcorn as audio interfaces, the MT-D47, Popcorn, Mew and the SD-20 as synths (plus maybe a Minidexxed), I feel like I'm basically set for life in music studio hardware, don't you..?
