Ok so I have this Dell Deminsion 4700:
Socket 775 Pentium 4 HT 672 x64
4GB of DDR2 RAM
Radeon HD 4650 PCIe

Now here is the problem, Windows 7 64 Bit installs fine and gathers all updates just fine next I installed windows 8.1 enterprise 32 Bit that worked perfect as well, then i acquired windows 8.1 enterprise 64 Bit so I attempted to install that and right as its loading it flashes an error code and reboots the computer.

Now I know that computer is capable of 64 bit and is capable of windows 8.1, but why not the 64 bit version? The CPU does have the correct extensions and meets the requirements.

Is It a windows bug? or could it be the board im using?

64-bit versions of Windows (starting with 8.1) requires some instructions, which aren't present on early x86-64 CPUs https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/dn140267.aspx

You can check capabilities of your Pentium with Sysinternals Coreinfo https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysintern … s/cc835722.aspx or other known app.

Apparently windows 8.1 64 bit version requires prefetchw and that's the only thing missing from pentium 4
