Another issue with the games unfortunately would be harder to solve, Example look at KQVI sealed. The second item is of a sealed jewel case not the CIB/SEALED edition that someone would probably be looking for it they were concerned with a product being sealed. Like I said people describe things all sorts of crazy ways. Ebay would be a really good place for an AI to comb through peoples listings and correct them based on the images.

That is not something I plan to fix. Too much of a detail. It will be part of the signal-to-noise ratio.

Also all of your Might and Magic 6 results are not for Might and Magic 6, they are people saying 6 discs with the Might and Magic game/collection.

I can easily fix that, thank you for spotting the issue.

I love the positivity in this thread! It is awesome 😀

Morning update:

* fixed the Might And Magic 6 false positives via filters
* added 386 computers. Those are a mixture of laptops and desktops (and various manufacturers). I might break them into separate categories later

Plan to add 486 computers today hopefully, then 386 motherboards followed by 486 motherboards.

Evening update:

* added 486 computers
* added 386 and 486 motherboards
* added a bunch of processors: Pentium MMX, Pentium II, Pentium III, Pentium 4
* added ATI Radeon 8500
* tweaked categories and filters for more accurate results

Unfortunately I reached the limit of eBay API calls I am allowed to make per day: 5000 so I cannot run my scripts more tonight.

For tomorrow: AMD CPUs !!! K6, K-2, K6-3, K7, Athlon and so on. I will extend sound cards too.

Any ideas for more things to search?

As a long term ebay search addict I can safely say filtering out useful results from crap is near impossible. One problem is so many sellers put stuff in the wrong category, so I end up searching all with about 30 keyword exclusions. Even a 10% false positive rate would be good, it's often more. Spelling mistakes, cluless sellers who manage to miss every useful keyword, my biggest fear is missing out on good items with bad listing than wasting time filtering out crap. This might be useful as a quick entry to browse certain items...but if your serious you would use saved searches tuned to your liking, and lots of manual review. There are also some good item alerts websites that will email you when a new item matches a saved search. As for prices? Vintage stuff is just too low volume to get a useful indicator...prices based on highly specific item attributes will vary widely...most of the time you are lucky to just find an item at all let alone for a certain price.

You are only the fourth on this thread to tell me it is "near impossible" yet look at my results. After a lot of work to add filtering the results are much more accurate now.

Rather than tell me why it is impossible (which clearly it is not) you could tell me what work I need to do to make it more useful 😀

So do I. My system is data driven, so I have a lot of csv files describing what to look for, what keywords to exclude, what keywords to include, etc

From my own observation of the data I gathered, I have somewhere around that now. In the beginning it was worse, but people here helped me identify issues which I fixed.

Anyway, morning update:

* added a bunch of AMD processors, specifically K6 line. And I am surprised at the low prices.
* more filtering to improve data accuracy for some systems

I like it now that you've added 386/486 systems. It would add some extra usability if you could include the title/description instead of the article number, which is rather unintuitive.
Besides that, some excellent improvents made so far. 😀

Also maybe this is not clear enough on my website. My work is on SOLD items, not live ones. The purpose is not to catch them all and catch them in time, The purpose is to find how much items tend to cost based on historical SOLD data. And missing one here or there, won't be too bad.

How many times do we see people complaining here that prices for vintage computers and parts "are going through the roof nowadays". Well now we can put some numbers to those claim. Give it few months or years to run and you'll find some trends too.

As far as I can see, I have not seen anyone doing what I am doing for vintage computing.

This won't invalidate your searches as it is doing something entirely different.

Can a MODERATOR please help me rename the thread to "eBay Vintage Computing historical prices database"?

So it does not sound like I am helping people find stuff on eBay.

That does not sound correct, you are right. I am probably rejecting them due to my exclude/include rules. I will take a look and see why.

Ok, I figured out some bugs in my rule files. Now, there is a healthy numbers of 386, 486 processors across different regions. Between the two of them, I have about 16 exclude keywords and phrases. Upon inspection the results seem to be good.

I've unified PCI and AGP.

Updates:

* modified rules for graphics cards and now there are a healthy number of 3Dfx and ATI cards.

Question: What vintage nVidia cards would people like to track the price of? I am looking for things pre 2010.

Update

* Voodoo4/Voodoo5 are there now
* added a bunch of Nvidia cards: TNT, TNT2, Geforce2, Geforce3 and Geforce4. They are not separated by different versions of Ti. And I am missing Geforce 5. I'll have to think how to add that. It seems the ultras are more interesting?

I also want to add some more obscure graphics cards, like Permidia for example.

And I also think the sound cards are under-represented too with only GUS, Sound Blaster Pro2, Aztech and LAPC-1. I need some more there too.
