Yes, im talking about devices like the yamaha mu 128 and them various expansion card's, was wondering on this theory due to it being such an rare and expensive, i do understand the MU series is a kind of rom based synth and would need quite the features written up for it to work as should, but it could, in theory, be done? where thinking could make it easy to some level for other people who want to exeprince the device and its amazing feature's, maybe having the expansion board's dumped.

Easy version: Use one of Yamaha's softsynths (since they too use XG).

But yes, in theory it could be done up to a degree, except for some of the expansion boards. The expansion boards that use samples merely provide better quality samples. However, the DX, AN, SG, and VL boards include their own synthesis engines (DX7 6-oprator FM, analogue synth emulation, formant, virtual acoustic, respectively) that can be used with a MU series synth because a part can be assigned to them, but the synthesis methods are completely different, while the VH board is actually an effects board.
