This game has got a myriad of different versions and editions released. I have never been able to categorize them and there seems to be more editions than what I know. Can anyone help me listing and categorizing these games based on the platforms they work on (Windows and DOS, APIs and HW they run on)?

To keep it simple, there's three major fractures:
- the 1995-96 OG releases (including the original 3dfx/PowerVR/ATI/Matrox/S3 releases)
- The 1997 Battle Pack version (A lot of YMMV makeover)
- The 1998 Titanium Pack version (D3D with a lot of YMMV makeover)

I've only owned the OG releases and Battle Pack seems more about graphical parity with Mercenaries (which should be considered a separate game to MW2). I imagine this was all hell with regards to NetMech compatibility.

The Titanium Edition uses D3D/nGlide and also probably RRedline API. On modern Windows 11, both d3d and glide is usable for Titanium, the original uses DDraw and works too.

There were many other: 3D Positional Audio, Non Retail Pentium Edition, a Netmech Edition (a edition with this name), versions for STB Velocity. There was also an AOL version. I wonder how many more are there.

I have an ancient site bookmarked that thoroughly covered most of the releases.

I actually didn't know they ever supported RRedline. But yeah apparently Titanium does.

From this site it seems like PCX2 supports Mech2. Probably then Mech2 becomes one of the first games to be tested in case a PCX2 emulator comes out.

Now I got to find more DOS versions
