Howdy folks,

Usually pretty good at sorting out this kind of stuff, but this one has me stumped.

Anyway, using an ASUS VB198T with a 1280x1024 native resolution for older games. Never changed any Personalize settings before and the desktop has always used the default background.

So earlier when I exited out of Powerslide, the background was stretched vertically.

This image shows what the background looked like before it got stretched.

None of the 'Choose a fit' options in Personalize > Background will restore how it looked before. It's as if Windows scales the background by default using a different method than any of the user selections.

Never messed with Nvidia scaling options, so no idea if that could cause something like this. GPU is a Quadro K620 with 376.33 drivers.

Just wondering if anyone knows of a way to reset the background to its previous look?

Thanks in advance. 😀

Okay never mind, figured it out.

Here's the fix in case anyone else runs into this.

1. Open regedit
2. Expand key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Wallpapers
3. Edit string in BackgroundHistoryPath0
From this:
C:\WINDOWS\web\wallpaper\Windows\img0.jpg
To this:
C:\Windows\Web\4K\Wallpaper\Windows\img0_1024x768.jpg
4. Go to Personalize > Background
5. Select the first image set to Fill
