At this point I believe flagship GPU prices are being set too high. We can consider the reasons of better R&D but not enough to justify such high increases.

GTX 480, 580 and 680Ti all started with MSRP of $499.

GTX 780Ti went to $699, 980Ti at $649, GTX 1080, 2080S and 3080 at $699

Let's forget about their availability and vendor pricing for this comparision.

Here comes the RTX 4080 proper (16GB) with a $500 dollar increase. The price which gave you a flagship GPU 10 years ago, is a generational leap increase.

Have to disagree with the pricing scheme, yes the card is unbeatable at this stage (we don't know how RDNA will fare) but the pricing seems too illegal to be paid.

Seeing the benchmarks of the released RTX 4090, I really wonder what it's even for. I mean, the X090 class cards have always been some weird hybrid of professional grade and super enthusiast. Prosumer perhaps? But this RTX 4090 is putting up 100+ FPS in the most challenging games that exist at 4K maxed out. It's like a solution looking for a problem. If you can spring for it, and have the 4K 144hz monitor to go with it, kudos to you. I'm curious how much the card which puts up 100 FPS at 1440p with DLSS turned on is. I'm also curious how rapidly the performance drops off between the 4090, 4080 and the gimped, should have been a 4070 thing they are calling a 4080 12GB

I like what the new stuff and market situation is doing to second hand prices.

There's definitely a large group out there that will pay almost anything to have the current best for playing games though.

It's like kidnapping the hardware to have it, and doesn't bode well for general people. Only if GPUS were as easy to be developed as Chinese phones...

It’s nice seeing a drop but it’s only about a max of a 14% drop, so below MSRP but still not really where we belong on “useful “ cards

They are trying to cover up the money they have to pay for the DLSS and FG teams.
